Homes

          The home is at the very root of our material existence. It is our sanctuary and recharges us for each new day. A home can be merely practical and it can also be a reflection of the personalities of those who live in it. The homes of the Futurevisions Project often visually reflect the optimistic look of futures past. These living spaces often depict such benefits as passive-solar energy use, private wind-power, and other energy-efficient systems. The home of the future will most certainly be highly equipped with “smart” technologies allowing the home to interact with the individual. These kinds of technologies could be a fantastic aid in allowing the elderly to live a more independent life.

          Often, people will live in grouped “villages” and small city units. For as many variations exist in individuals, there are equal variety in the homes in which they live. In an evolved society, people would ideally be able to live just the way they wanted, whether it be in the center of an active futuropolis, or secluded from the active city in a rural setting. By transferring from long-range speed transportation to the gradually slower inner-city people-movers, a person living many miles from dense civilization clusters can commute in a short time and still be connected if they so choose. We may see further developments in what a home can be. We may see more “pod-homes” allowing people to live temporarily in urban areas or even aquatic floating homes and amphibious dwellings. Given nearly unlimited options and resources, how would you choose to live?
