Question #4
"If a visitor from the year 2057 traveled back through time to the present, what message do you think they would give to us?"
JF:
Utilize AI, science, and technology for the intelligent management of earth’s resources. This cannot be accomplished through politics, but only by applying the scientific method to the way we manage social and environmental affairs.
DB:
To be aware of our actions!
SS:
I deign to provide a lengthy answer to this question as it would reveal my dreadfully pessimistic view of our likely world future. But I imagine this hypothetical visitor from the future would advise us to make all human processes sustainable.
SG:
-Be kind to your neighbors they may have the answer to your greatest problem!
The way I like to approach such questions, like what do you think the world will look like in 50 years, is to look back. Like what message would we have for someone in the year 1955. Undoubtedly we would see more wars in the next 51 years. Perhaps the world would be divided into 3 main factions by that time. With clear division lines .Maybe they'd say something like.
"Be nice to your neighbor, they may be holding the cure for cancer."
A:
Where am I... Where's the time machine. Don't kill each other
AU:
Okay, I'm going to think positive first...
My hope is that they would say that our attitudes influenced the next generation, that we, as future grandparents started thinking about what we were doing to the earth, to each other and that we all pulled together and started to make a difference in politics, corporate humanitarianism, and proffered a world of peace and global responsibility. This is my hope (a bit 1968 I admit, but is seems that our generation holds the key to a more liberal collective thought process).
My fear...
That because we all sat back in apathy the air 50 years from now is unbreathable, drought and hunger run global, the divisions of wealth have recreated feudalism and war has destroyed entire cities and cultures, and our indifference to it all helped corporate consciousness collect and grow stronger, while the working class, weaker and poor, now accounts for a 75% poverty level world wide...
Which brings me to the synopsis... learning tolerance for what is right, and fighting with intolerance the hatreds, wrongs and slot of the last 100 years.
NS:
“What were you thinking?”
MG:
If you don’t heed the advice from the first two questions, you are going to be in bad shape! LOL
PP:
Take better care of your planet.
